Kelan Amme Bio

As an undergraduate historian, much of my inspiration came from my love of history growing up. Just about every summer, my family and I traveled across the United States in our travel trailer to different locations and regions, usually with my grandparents and cousins towing ahead of us. Oftentimes we would all pick out a place to visit, which usually led to us visiting a historical site, museum, monument, or national/state park.

It is because of my continued desire to learn and explore new avenues that I am sharing this website. I am grateful to be able to participate in the first iteration of the Mapping Freedom REU and use digital tools to help study and present the history of enslavement and emancipation across the southern regions of the United States.

As of summer 2023, I am going to be a rising senior at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, where I am pursuing my B.A. in History, concentrating in Public History, and minoring in Digital Public Humanities. I look to continue my education at the graduate level with the hope of working as an archivist or museum professional within the public history field.

Much of my work outside of an archive has surrounded elements of public history such as documentary filmmaking, oral histories, online exhibits, Story Maps, and content creation. To see my completed and in-progress work that relates to Digital Humanities and public history, please click the Mapping Freedom '23 tab above.  To learn more about me, please see my website here.
